Christmas in Burlington

We had the loveliest, mellowest holiday season to date. We missed family and friends like crazy, but enjoyed the quiet, beautiful day. After verifying that Santa had come (cookies and carrots eaten) we fed the chickens and played around outside (temperatures in the 40s), opened stockings and ate breakfast. Though Mark and Fisher had full stockings they were only interested in the battery-powered trains Santa was savvy enough to bring. Then Mark and I headed over to Viva to make coffee for a community dinner for senior citizens while Wayne and Fisher went on a run. We met up at the dinner. So sweet. Hopefully it will be an annual event.

Chicken Land

It's true. We have chickens. Seven of them to be exact, and a chicken McMansion to boot. Made entirely of recycled materials, boasting a door painted by Annie that gets tons of compliments. Emily, Bucket, Mavis, Mames, Lady, and the two without names (Mark ran out of steam) lay 6-7 eggs a day between them, even now with several inches of snow on the ground and sub-zero temperatures. They are lovely and bright and love to be pet. It turns out Mark is the chicken whisperer and Fisher is incredibly gentle picking up eggs (except when he decides to squeeze them). Wayne is a natural and all in all we love having productive pets. Our urban homestead is picking up steam!

Winter in VT

Until very recently we didn't even need coats. (This pic was taken in late Dec.) Good thing global warming is a hoax.

Biking to Viva

6:45 am. We headed out early one morning so Jody and Wayne could sleep in. It was the kind of day when I needed Viva as a customer. So glad she exists (and opens at 6:30)

Fisher's Nap

He really did fall asleep like this when Jody was here....
